Posthypnotic Change, Circus Legends, and the Art of Being Teachable Walked Into a Bar

It sounds like the start of a bad joke, but it’s actually the start of a masterclass about how powerful it is to redesign your thinking, on purpose, by planning it out.

Real Coaching Starts When You Stop Needing to Be Right

… and this one was titled:

"Changing a Posthypnotic Suggestion."

In this one, Juan Antonio Perez Jurado helped his student to change something about how she had programmed herself into keep doing what she didn't want to do.

As I led the dissection and highlighted many opportunities for:

the students present during the masterclass

and anyone else watching the recordings (not quite the same experience, since you don’t get to ask questions and take the risk in pointing out details)...

…I kept realising how much more there is to learn.

It doesn’t even matter if you’re right or wrong, or if you get it right or you fail.

What matters isn’t just knowing the theory of how bike-riding works.

What matters is:

You show up,

You practice,

You allow the falls,

And you make it happen.

Just because you wouldn’t do something in a certain way...

…it doesn’t mean it’s wrong, or it wouldn’t work.

It just means you get to learn more —

by emptying your cup,

and by paying attention.

Lead by Example. Learn Like a Student. Coach Like a Legend.

Many years ago, I had the luck to meet and work with Frankie.

For many of us in the Circus world, she was the authority in the field here in South Australia.

She was one of the best teachers and coaches (not just about circus!) that I’ve ever had the fantastic opportunity to work with.

And thanks to her…

I learned so much.

I keep thinking about how quickly she was to take out pen and paper to write something down —

…something she knew she didn’t know yet.

It didn’t matter how much knowledge she already had.

She was ready.

She was eager.

She was prepared to keep learning.

What an amazing person.

Teacher.

Coach.

Mentor.

Leading by example.

Why Mastery Isn’t About Being Right — It’s About Being Ready

I applaud all of you — who can and want to keep upgrading your skills,

who show up with the right attitude, ready to redesign your thinking, and

who pay attention to how much there is to learn in every single opportunity that comes your way.

From the bottom of my heart: I appreciate you.

Let’s keep making this world even better, yet.
