Prisoners of Our Own Reality

We are prisoners of our own personal reality like never before.
This isn’t philosophy. It’s not some late-night “what if” conversation. It’s the world we live in right now.
Once upon a time, reality was something we shared. Sure, everyone had their own perspective, their own biases, but we were still looking at the same world. Now? That world is gone.
Social media doesn’t just reflect your reality anymore—it builds it.
Every click, every pause, every reaction is tracked, measured, and used to tailor the world you see. Your feed isn’t “what’s happening.” It’s what they decided you should see. It’s not random—it’s engineered.
And the genius is in the comfort. You see “like-minded” people. You see stories that match your triggers. You see just enough outrage to make you feel alive.
That’s the game. It’s not about how you perceive something—it’s about how it’s proposed to you. Who is pushing it. What they choose to highlight. They are piloting your thoughts, your energy, and your attention without you even noticing.
This is the art of stacking realities. One on top of the other until you can’t tell anymore what’s real, only what’s curated. And while you’re distracted, your most precious resources—time, energy, and focus—are quietly stolen from you.
Look at the circus lineup:
Charlie Kirk got shot.
Taylor Swift is engaged.
Another war is trending.
Tomorrow it’ll be something else.
It’s all noise. All theatre. And yet we clap, argue, and comment as if it matters.
The worst part? People actually feel enlightened because they’ve got an opinion. Stick a label on something, feel smart about it, move on. That’s not awareness. That’s being part of the fucking circus.
Dirty Harry said it perfectly: “Opinions are like asshles, everybody has one.”*
So here’s the uncomfortable truth: before you read this, maybe it wasn’t your fault. Maybe you didn’t know.
Now you do.
If you keep falling for the same distractions, if you keep letting algorithms feed you your version of reality, then it’s no longer ignorance. That’s your responsibility.
Noam Chomsky explained the strategies of manipulation years ago. I’ve got the PDF. If you want it, say so in the comments and I’ll send it free.
Stay curious. Train yourself to notice the patterns. Learn how to calibrate, how to see beyond the circus.
Or keep scrolling, keep dancing, keep feeling clever with your opinions while you’re being played.
Your choice.
