The Pop That Changed Everything

One step at a time. A little bit better than before. Keep going.
Ten years ago, I was working as the head trainer and artistic director for Zig Zag Circus, while also running the circus program at Seacliff Primary School — where we’d just finished installing my beloved Chinese pole.
Then, in one glorious display of “wrong arm, wrong time,” I ruptured my distal bicep tendon while spotting a gymnast.
There was a loud rip — imagine someone tearing a bedsheet right next to your ear.
The acrobat landed safely (and thought she’d torn her outfit).
She hadn’t. My tendon, however, waved goodbye.
I rushed recovery, tried to outsmart biology, and ended up stretching a few months into two years. During that time, I met my fair share of physical pain, emotional chaos, digestive rebellion, and mental fireworks.
(If you’re going to screw up, at least make it a masterpiece, right?)
But it led me somewhere completely unexpected — into studying and practicing Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Hypnosis, and Life Coaching.
That injury turned into one of the most valuable lessons of my life.
Would I do it again? In the immortal words of Roy Kent:
“F*** no.”
But I wouldn’t trade what came after it for anything.
“When you change the way you think, you change the way you feel, therefore changing what you can do.” – Dr Richard Bandler
Wherever you are right now, whatever you’re facing — remember that thought.
Onward, upward, forward.
